PART 3: A 1968 UFO Incident at Minot AFB

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

This is the third part of a series looking at a case from 1968 that involved sightings of UFOs on October 24, 1968, by ground observers stationed at the ICBM missile complex surrounding Minot AFB in North Dakota. A B-52 was flying in the area, and the pilot was requested to change course and investigate. The result was a UFO encounter that was caught on photographs of the B-52 radarscope, and the pilot, Maj. James A. Partin, and co-pilot, Captain Bradford Runyon, reported that they’d had a visual sighting of the object when it was on the ground. In addition to the sightings, it was reported that the outer and inner perimeter alarms of the missile site designated Oscar-7 went off and that a padlocked entry hatch there was found open with a plug-style gate secured by a combination lock removed from it. The case was officially examined by the officer in charge of UFO investigations at the base who provided details and evidence to Project Blue Book. The Blue Book conclusion was that what was seen was possibly a combination of “anomalous propagation” of radar returns, a plasma ball, and celestial bodies. It was also concluded that the break-in was unrelated. The case lay dormant for 30 years until Runyon contacted the Center for UFO Studies and filled out a sighting report form. The case caught the interest of members of the newly formed Sign Historical Group and they did a thorough investigation that included many interviews with witnesses. They’ve made material they gathered available as part of the Sign Oral History Project on a website devoted to the case. In Part III, we’ll look at the reports by the ground observers. Read more

PART 2: A 1968 UFO Incident at Minot AFB

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In Part I of this blog, we looked at a case from 1968 that involved sightings of a UFO on October 24, 1968, by ground observers stationed at the ICBM missile complex surrounding Minot AFB in North Dakota. A B-52 was flying in the area and the pilot was requested to change course and investigate. The result was a UFO encounter that was caught on photographs of the B-52 radarscope and the pilot, Maj. James A. Partin, and co-pilot, Captain Bradford Runyon, reported that they’d had a visual sighting of the object when it was on the ground. In addition to the sightings, it was reported that the outer and inner perimeter alarms of the missile site designated Oscar-7 went off and that a padlocked entry hatch there was found open with a plug-style gate secured by a padlock removed from it. The case was officially examined by the officer in charge of UFO investigations at the base, Lt. Col. Arthur Werlich. He provided details and evidence to Project Blue Book, and they concluded that what was seen was possibly a combination of “anomalous propagation” of radar returns, a plasma ball, and celestial bodies. They also concluded that the break-in was unrelated. In Part II, we’ll look at the key elements of the case that they uncovered. Show #581 Notes: Dave Mason

Simulcast on KGRA Radio, YouTube, Facebook & Twitch – Tuesday, October 31, 2023 @ 7:00 PM EDT (-4GMT)

BIO: For the past 28 years, David has been a co-founder of an advanced electronic test equipment custom engineering and supply corporation.
He designed and built a vector impedance cathode ray oscilloscope that fits in the palm.
Spanning more than three decades he has designed electronic devices including commercial HAM radio equipment and prototypes in aerospace and government contracts.
In his spare time, he volunteers at Bellevue College providing technical maintenance, calibration, and operation of the astronomical observatory.

David owns all of the large array of research equipment and inventions that were used on his expedition in the movie “A Tear in the Sky.”
He also appeared in several episodes of “Skinwalker Ranch” using his re-engineered FLIR thermal cameras that provided differential FLIR
detection which resulted in newly discovered anomalies. His inventions also include a FLIR thermal camera that converts heat and cold temperatures into sound,
GEN-3 night vision goggles that convert light into sound, binoculars that convert light into sound, and a broad spectrum of modulated Lightwave
transmitters which include ultraviolet and longwave infrared.

While using scientific-grade FLIR thermal imaging cameras David has also recorded many UAP/UFOs which appear to defy our understanding of physics.
The unknown objects with strange shapes often passively measure very cold at -80F or -62C according to the FLIR NIST traceable measured calibrated temperature span.
The objects are also not visible using Military GEN 3+ night vision goggles or unaided eyes. The low temperatures of the unknown objects can’t be explained as simple high-altitude crafts in a cold environment.
This is due to the trigonometry calculations based on the known FLIR camera field of view, the programmed emissivity, and the known cold temperature references at altitudes.
The trigonometry calculation results in some unknown objects having physical measurements as much as 2,200 feet or 670 meters in scale.

David continues to develop new inventions and technology focused on detecting phenomena outside the limits of commercially available equipment.
He recently recorded the modulated light from the coma and nucleus of Comet E3 ZTF and converted it to sound by using his refined photon-electron-multiplier technology.
His newly designed FLIR telescope Germanium lens system offers 100x LWIR-optical magnification enabling FLIR video of crater details on the moon with passive temperature measurement of the lunar surface.
He also owns more than a dozen scientific-grade FLIR thermal cameras that he uses in search of anomalous activity as well as an array of lab-standard RF spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes.

A 1968 UFO Incident at Minot AFB

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

Minot Air Force Base Entrance

At the suggestion of Mr. Martin Willis, this week we are looking at a report involving a UFO incident on October 24, 1968, at Minot AFB in North Dakota. It involved sightings reported by ground observers stationed at the surrounding Minuteman ICBM complex as well as the crew of a B-52. What gives this case extra significance is that there are available photos of the B-52 radarscope to back up the crew’s account. There is a Project Blue Book file on the case that contains the conclusion that what was seen was possibly a combination of “anomalous propagation” of radar returns, a plasma ball, and celestial bodies, but an exceptional investigation begun in 2000 by members of the recently formed Sign Historical Group indicates that the incident involved something genuinely mysterious.

PART 2: A 1991 Crop Circle and UFO Investigation by ParaNet/MICAP

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In 1986, Jim Speiser of Fountain Hills, Arizona, got the urge to create an electronic forum dedicated to a discussion of paranormal topics. He started a BBS (bulletin board system) using six personal computers located at various locations in the U.S. and Canada linked together with a Fidonet system. Speiser called his new BBS “The ParaNet.” In the summer of 1991, there was a “spin-off” of ParaNet named the Multi-national Investigations Cooperative on Aerial Phenomena, and ParaNet published a magazine called Continuum to get their investigations reports out to the public. The first case in the Volume 1, Number 1, September 1991 issue involves an investigation by James Black (who wrote the report) and Robert Atwood of a simple crop circle that formed overnight starting on August 21, 1991, in a cornfield in Iowa that led them to other reports of strange activity in the area. The case became far more complex than a simple crop circle report, and this has ended up becoming a two-part blog. In the first part, we looked at the investigation and three witness accounts, and in the second part, we’ll look at one more account, the conclusions, and the aftermath, which included poltergeist activity reported to have been experienced by a fellow investigator at his home. Simulcast on KGRA Radio, YouTube, Facebook & Twitch – Tuesday, October 17, 2023 @ 7:00 PM EDT (-4GMT)

BIO: In 2015, Matthew Roberts was a US naval service member stationed onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The events that transpired during their 2015 workup cycle brought us the first-ever declassified footage of unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) and the New York Times article titled: “Glowing Auras and ‘Black Money’: the Pentagon’s Mysterious U.F.O. Program.”

Subsequently, he transferred to the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington D.C. where he began to have frequent, and often intense, personal experiences with the phenomenon.  He discovered through a long, painful, and terrifying journey that the truth of the phenomenon has deep and profound implications for the future of the human race. It may seem like a bold statement but the ultimate universal truth that underlies the phenomenon is captured in the simple yet eloquent words of Mark Twain, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.” Read more

DAN WARREN BIO: After years of anonymously lurking on UFOtwitter and passively consuming UFO related content, Dan took the advice of Lue Elizondo and got off the couch and got involved. With zero recording and editing skills, and just an inkling of talent, he started a Tiktok channel called The 5th Pillar of Emphasis. Almost 3 years and a thousand videos later, his channel has grown to almost 300,000 followers and his other social media accounts have continued to steadily grow at the same time. The goal of The 5th Pillar of Emphasis is to engage with the masses in an short, concise, and informative manner and provide historical context to current events that newcomers to the UFO community may not have background knowledge of. The learning curve associated with the UFO topic is steep and intimidating, but by using short 2 to 5 minutes videos, it allows him to reach a broader audience that isn’t interested in spending hours getting up to speed and deep diving into a UFO case or news story, making it easier for casual UFO fans to stay up to date with the ongoing disclosure process.

Two 1975 UFO Flaps in Florida

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In 1975, after the Travis Walton Incident on November 5, because of the attention it received in the press and among the UFO community, there were two flaps in Florida that fell through the cracks and have all but been forgotten. The first one was in the area of Miami- Dade County that started on the same day as the Walton incident, and the second was a little over a month later around 50 miles south of Jacksonville in the small farming community of Hastings. The Miami-Dade reports received a good amount of local press, as did the Hastings reports. The Hastings reports were looked into by the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization, and there is an article on the case in the January 1976 APRO Bulletin.

Show #577 Notes: Jim Quirk

Simulcast on KGRA Radio, YouTube, Facebook & Twitch – Tuesday, October 3rd, @ 7:00 PM EDT (-4GMT)

BIO: James Quirk, among other things, worked as a local government reporter for 14 years at various newspapers in Pennsylvania, Iowa and Hawaii. He’s been interested in UFOs and extraterrestrials since the late 1980s when he finally realized that the weird, three-fingered being he saw in his bedroom in 1977 had to come from another world. His interest in the subject was further boosted in 1994 when, during a nighttime fishing trip with a friend, he encountered a silent flying object that came within 20 feet of his position. The object was as big as a house, sported three large, circular lights, and moved in ways that would be impossible for human-made craft to move. Since 2021, Mr. Quirk has been talking about UFOs and extraterrestrials on his Spotify podcast called UFO – Extraterrestrial Reality, and on his YouTube channel, Quirk Zone.

Russian UFO Reports Now in the U.S. Congressional Record

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

George Knapp (left)

Recently, on July 26, KLAS Chief Investigative Reporter George Knapp attended the House Oversight Committee hearing on UFOs. He submitted a written statement describing his interest in and involvement with the subject that was read into the record. A part of his statement that has made headlines is a description of an incident involving UFOs over a Russian ICBM base in Ukraine that seemingly took control of the base launch system. He said this story was to him by a man he described as the director of Russia’s official UFO investigation, Col. Boris Sokolov. According to Knapp, the study lasted ten years, “and was likely the largest UFO investigation ever undertaken.” As this is now in the historical record, it might be of interest to know how Knapp got in touch with Sokolov and consider how accurate his information might have been.  Read more
