BIO: Irene Previn is an Australian visual artist and designer, and keen on uncovering the mystery behind UFOs.
About five years ago, after moving from her home town to work on a new project in Melbourne, Irene heard about Westall incident from her workmates. This occurred in the neighbourhood of her new workplace. At that time, she had never heard of it, let alone of a UFO sighting with over 200 witnesses, so her curiosity was piqued. She then took some of her workmates with her to have a look at the place where it happened.
She was allowed in to Shane Ryan’s private Westall Facebook group and learned more about the incident by watching Rosie Jones’s documentary, Westall 66: A Suburban UFO Mystery.
Surprised to see that no-one was organising any kind of celebration or acknowledgement marking the 50th anniversary of the event, Irene organised one herself. She posted a public invitation to join a picnic at The Grange Reserve, where the saucer was seen hovering close to the ground.
To her surprise, people turned up, even including some of the witnesses who willingly shared details of the experiences. Following the event, James Rigney contacted her requesting a meeting. She did not know him from a bar of soap, and was concerned that he might be a weirdo UFO guy. Prior to hearing about the Westall incident, her idea of anyone that took the sighting of flying discs seriously was, that they needed urgent medical attention.
Over coffee, James convinced Irene that he was perfectly sane, in fact he’s quite a nice architect and family man. Irene shared her vision to invite the public to a screening of Rosie’s film, followed by a Q&A panel with the witnesses. James organised the support of a local UFO investigation group to provide funds and helping hands to help make the event happen.
The event was a success, they sold all of the tickets two week before the event! James and Irene worked together to bring James Fox over to visit and film the Westall bits for his film, The Phenomenon.
Through this Irene met her new boss, a mad scientist who works in robotics. She now works as part of a team doing 3d modelling for prototypes and mechanical drafting for fabrication. She also creates collages in her spare time for her online visual art gallery. Luckily for Irene, her boss is equally keen in pursuing the UFO question.

g’day Martin I was just listening to your podcast with Irene Previn, I got halfway through and had to stop listening and send you this message. firstly i guess im a little computer illiterate but it took me bloody ages to find a way to contact you. just a suggestion but a nice big “contact me” button that would help “dummies ” like myself . Anyway.. i have utmost respect for your guest Ms. Previn. she is wonderful at telling a story that she has been told…i myself would not go as far as too refer to miss Previn as a researcher, a presenter might be a more accurate description. now that I’ve gotten this far I have forgotten most of the little points i was going too make. but of the military Personnel that attended the school at Westall following the incident, one of them was an american ,”how can this point be overlooked! ” the Australian was from our spy agency” a.s.i.o” the equivalent of your CIA .i recall an issue about camo and the diggers “austrailian army ” not having it yet, camo that is, “plian green for the diggers.
And as for the Knowles family” event ” Irene didn’t know that there were two separate interviews, with two separate truck drivers, that were following the knowells family when the event occurred. the Nullarbor Plain is renowned for having a dead straight section of road that continues for over 100 miles!!! with pretty much no trees along the whole way. Alot of people would have wittnesed the incident, but what you don’t hear, is how backwards people are in Australia , I heard you say that a large percentage of your listeners were from Australia. well I tell you what, they don’t tell anybody that they are listening to your show or any show like it,there’s a lot of sheep in Australia and I’m not talking about the four-legged kind , they believe everything the media tells them , Except ufo stories… if you even mention UFO or conspiracy theory you are considered a freak and that’s no lie….Oh shit does this go public,i only just noticed, oh well .
Now i know there were at least 10 or more points in both the”westall and nullabore” events she missed , like : in the same week just previously from westall an older farmer type gent reported a ufo “it made the light fron his car headlighs turn 90 degress to the right about40 meters i guess60 yards in the “old money”(ha ha) from the front of the car, which almost lured him too the right, where there was alarge gum tree that was just off to. the side of the road……and a young person did hit said tree and was killed in the collision ,one or two days after the older gent reported his ” event” . which i would consider a connection not to be reported “while you tell your little story” yes you know too whom i am speaking of, well where was i now ah yes i guess i shouldent critticise un less im willing to do better my self. im gonna relisten too the pod cast from the start ill be back with the numbers aka mistakes /omitions later ..ps i have a few encounters/ events my self, but i cant tell them here because IM NOT A FREAK repeat NOT A FREAK………….BYE NOW
Dear Mr/Ms Whitelighter. Thank you for your input. You are right. It is correct that the bent headlights case occurred two days before Westall. The details of the case are better known by Bill Chalker and John Auchettl, and are well covered online. I thought it would be best presented by the researchers who are intimately familiar with the case – which I do not pretend to be.
I have never called myself a researcher, although I do research current and historic cases that interest me, so more accurately, I’d describe myself as a curious bystander, who is deeply interested with issues of human mystery as it informs my visual art practice.
The reason (I believe) I was invited on the show was to chat about my dealings with the Westall witnesses, James Fox, and Fred Valentich’s finance, Rhonda Rushton, and to provide an Australian perspective. I thought I’d share the Knowles case which many Northern hemisphere viewers/listeners may not have discovered, and it related to my personal story of disbelief at the time it occurred. I have since reflected on the case after reading up on many other cases, and commented on this retrospectively.
Also, it is true that there is a big lack of interest, or ‘cognitive dissonance’ amongst the majority of the general public in Australia regarding this subject, including the media. The stigma attached to it and the ridicule associated with is it still prevalent, not helped in anyway by mainstream media community’s failure examine the scientific data that is readily available from excellent scientists, in particular the work of Jacques Vallee.
We will watch carefully the impact that James Fox’s film will have as it gains traction in the mainstream. The upcoming release of a book by a highly regarded, Australian celebrity investigative journalist should also make an impact on the media and general public’s acceptance here in Australia.
