A 1991 Crop Circle and UFO Investigation by ParaNet/MICAP

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In 1986, Jim Speiser of Fountain Hills, Arizona, got the urge to create an electronic forum dedicated to a discussion of paranormal topics. He started a BBS (bulletin board system) using six personal computers located at various locations in the U.S. and Canada linked together with a Fidonet system. People would dial a number that would access a computer through a modem, and they could read and post messages and access files. Speiser called his new BBS “The ParaNet.” In the summer of 1991, there was a “spin-off” of ParaNet named the Multi-national Investigations Cooperative on Aerial Phenomena, and ParaNet published a magazine called Continuum to get their investigations reports out to the public. The first case in the Volume 1, Number 1, September 1991 issue involves an investigation of a simple crop circle in a cornfield in Iowa that led researchers to other reports of strange activity in the area. The case became far more complex than a simple crop circle report, and this has ended up becoming a two-part blog. In the first part, we’ll look at the investigation and three witness accounts, and in the second part we’ll look at one more account, the conclusions, and the aftermath, which included poltergeist activity reported to have been experienced by one investigator at his home. DAN WARREN BIO: After years of anonymously lurking on UFOtwitter and passively consuming UFO related content, Dan took the advice of Lue Elizondo and got off the couch and got involved. With zero recording and editing skills, and just an inkling of talent, he started a Tiktok channel called The 5th Pillar of Emphasis. Almost 3 years and a thousand videos later, his channel has grown to almost 300,000 followers and his other social media accounts have continued to steadily grow at the same time. The goal of The 5th Pillar of Emphasis is to engage with the masses in an short, concise, and informative manner and provide historical context to current events that newcomers to the UFO community may not have background knowledge of. The learning curve associated with the UFO topic is steep and intimidating, but by using short 2 to 5 minutes videos, it allows him to reach a broader audience that isn’t interested in spending hours getting up to speed and deep diving into a UFO case or news story, making it easier for casual UFO fans to stay up to date with the ongoing disclosure process.

Two 1975 UFO Flaps in Florida

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In 1975, after the Travis Walton Incident on November 5, because of the attention it received in the press and among the UFO community, there were two flaps in Florida that fell through the cracks and have all but been forgotten. The first one was in the area of Miami- Dade County that started on the same day as the Walton incident, and the second was a little over a month later around 50 miles south of Jacksonville in the small farming community of Hastings. The Miami-Dade reports received a good amount of local press, as did the Hastings reports. The Hastings reports were looked into by the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization, and there is an article on the case in the January 1976 APRO Bulletin.

Simulcast on KGRA Radio, YouTube, Facebook & Twitch – Tuesday, October 3rd, @ 7:00 PM EDT (-4GMT)

BIO: James Quirk, among other things, worked as a local government reporter for 14 years at various newspapers in Pennsylvania, Iowa and Hawaii. He’s been interested in UFOs and extraterrestrials since the late 1980s when he finally realized that the weird, three-fingered being he saw in his bedroom in 1977 had to come from another world. His interest in the subject was further boosted in 1994 when, during a nighttime fishing trip with a friend, he encountered a silent flying object that came within 20 feet of his position. The object was as big as a house, sported three large, circular lights, and moved in ways that would be impossible for human-made craft to move. Since 2021, Mr. Quirk has been talking about UFOs and extraterrestrials on his Spotify podcast called UFO – Extraterrestrial Reality, and on his YouTube channel, Quirk Zone.

Russian UFO Reports Now in the U.S. Congressional Record

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

George Knapp (left)

Recently, on July 26, KLAS Chief Investigative Reporter George Knapp attended the House Oversight Committee hearing on UFOs. He submitted a written statement describing his interest in and involvement with the subject that was read into the record. A part of his statement that has made headlines is a description of an incident involving UFOs over a Russian ICBM base in Ukraine that seemingly took control of the base launch system. He said this story was to him by a man he described as the director of Russia’s official UFO investigation, Col. Boris Sokolov. According to Knapp, the study lasted ten years, “and was likely the largest UFO investigation ever undertaken.” As this is now in the historical record, it might be of interest to know how Knapp got in touch with Sokolov and consider how accurate his information might have been.  Read more

Part 2: The 1993 Cosford Incident

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

In part 1 of this blog, we looked at a 1993 case from Southern England that has become known as “The Cosford Incident.” It involved a series of UFO sightings reports, many from police, on March 30 and 31, 1993. British UFO researcher Nick Pope was manning the UFO desk in Sec(AS)2a of the Ministry of Defense at the time and described himself on an episode of NEWS 7 Spotlight as being “broadly skeptical” when it came to UFOs and that his investigation of this case was “the turning point.” The case became a British classic due in part to Pope’s description of it in his 1996 book, Open Skies, Closed Minds. However, other researchers, such as Jenny Randles of the British UFO Research Association, suspected that some of the sightings were of a satellite rocket booster from Cosmos 2235 (sent up by the Commonwealth of Independent States) re-entering the atmosphere. One report from RAF Shawbury that was highlighted by Pope was later reconsidered by the witness as also having a prosaic explanation. Because the file (Part 1, Part 2) on the case was released to the public by the MoD, details can be examined by anyone with an interest. Read more

In Memory of Calvin Parker

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

Calvin Parker, 1954-2023

Recently, on August 24, Calvin Parker passed on at the age of 68. In 1973, he, along with Charles Hickson, reported being abducted by strange creatures in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Afterwards, he spent decades hiding from public attention, moving repeatedly, and changing his name. As the 50th anniversary of the incident was approaching, with the encouragement of his wife, Waynett, Calvin began to publicly acknowledge who he was and what he reportedly experienced. He spent the last decade of his life making friends among the UFO community while speaking about his experience on podcasts, radio shows, and conventions after writing a book, Pascagoula – The Closest Encounter: My Story, that was published in 2018. Martin and Podcast UFO played a large part in Calvin’s re-entry into the public arena and also provided a vehicle for a happy reunion with an estranged family member. Read more

Former Marine, Jonathan Weygandt, UFO/UAP Crash Encounter in Peru

By Martin Willis

I feel lucky enough to be the second interviewer of former Marine, Jonathan Weygandt who had an amazing encounter, with bad aftermath while involved in Project Laser Strike in Peru in 1997. Check out the interview HERE.

Portions of Jonathan’s 2001 edited interview can be seen HERE.

Jonathan with his father at Graduation

Jonathan went into the Marines in 1995, and after Boot Camp in South Caroline, he was deployed in Texas, and in early 1997, Peru.

Jonathan was vetted by journalist Leslie Kean in 2000, after he was connected to Dr. Steven Greer, who made a choice to feature an interview with him for the 2001 Disclosure Project. James Fox was involved in the interview and recently commented to me that out of all the interviews for that project, Jonathan was the most outstanding, and “believes him 110%”

Operation Laser Strike was a operating 19 Latin American countries to counter ongoing drug smuggling. It was active in Peru, from September 1996 through June 1997 US Marines supported the counter-drug operations of US Southern Command (CINCSOUTH) with a ground mobile radar and communications team.

Purportedly, while on guard duty patrol, Jonathan spoke to two women from the ground based radar station one day that claimed they were catching objects flying in and out of the atmosphere at over mach 10, several thousand miles per hour.

New Information Since the First Interview

I learned a few things while getting to know Jonathan over these last few months, prior to interviewing him. First of all, he is a no-nonsense type of person. He is highly intelligent, well read and articulate. The most important thing I learned is, he wants nothing to do with those involved in UFOlogy, nothing to do with the press of any type and it was very uncomfortable for him to recount what happened in 1997. He told me ahead of time that he had nothing to add to the first interview, and he was right. I did ask him some details, and he shared a few of them. One; it was the very first mission of heading out on a mission to check on a crashed craft, possibly friendly airplane. Two; there was a being’s arm hanging out of a cockpit? door. Three; the one positive thing he got out of it is, “I am still alive”. There was a time when he did not think he was going to live.

What I referring to is, a troop of men in back camouflage who aggressively took over the situation, shackled him and flew him out of there. He was interrogated for many hours, threatened to never speak about it and shipped back to the US. Things only went downhill from there.

You can read more details about the encounter HERE.

Show #574 Notes: Jay Christopher King

Simulcast on KGRA Radio, YouTube, Facebook & Twitch – Tuesday, September 12, @ 7:00 PM EDT (-4GMT)

Jay Christopher King is a community manager, researcher, artist and life coach, who co-founded The Experiencer Group with Stuart Davis and Kirsten Blackburn in 2021. After showing art through graduate school, he began working in television as a writer/producer, primarily for the Discovery Channel and its properties. During the pandemic, Jay became heavily involved in hosting a network of confidential support groups for fellow experiencers of anomalous phenomena. He realized experiencers needed to have a private community to share, learn, and grow. That led to the creation of The Experiencer Group, where King now serves as Director. The Experiencer Group is now in its third year, with many online and in-person events including book clubs, support meetings, AMAs with guests, topical meetups and a custom-built private social media site just for fellow experiencers. Jay also does online one-on-one consulting and coaching work so that experiencers and those interested in the anomalous can thrive in day-to-day life while processing and integrating their more personal experiences.

In 2022, he began organizing conference events in New York City with James Iandoli under the name Inquire Anomalous. Jay’s solo and collaborative artwork has been shown at venues including the Museo de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid), James Cohan Gallery (NYC), and MoMA PS1 (NYC). He holds a Fine Art BFA from SVA, and an MFA in Film from Bard College.

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”

On March 30, and 31, 1993, reports of a UFO over Southern England came in to the Ministry of Defense. Nick Pope was manning the “UFO desk” at the time, and he described that “the phones were ringing off the hook.” He posted a description of the most dramatic reports on February 20, 2007, on the Physics Forum website. He appeared in a 2009 7 News Spotlight (an Australian program) segment presented by Russ Coulthart and described himself as “broadly skeptical” and his investigation of this series of reports as “the turning point.” Pope described the case in his 1996 book, “Open Skies, Closed Minds,” which helped to make it a classic, but Jenny Randles of the British UFO Research Association suspected that some of the sightings were of a satellite rocket booster from Cosmos 2235 (sent up by the Commonwealth of Independent States) re-entering the atmosphere.
