One of the most important interviews ever presented on Podcast UFO, host Martin Willis sits down with former U.S. Navy F/A-18 pilot Alex Dietrich for a candid discussion of the November 14, 2004 Tic Tac UFO encounter involving the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. Dietrich describes how an otherwise routine training mission suddenly changed when her flight was redirected by the USS Princeton to investigate an unidentified contact. She recalls the disturbance in the ocean, the moment the white Tic Tac-shaped object entered her field of view and the confusion of watching it react to Commander David Fravor’s aircraft. “We weren’t supposed to be there,” Dietrich explains. “What the hell is this thing? Where did it come from? What is it doing? How is it doing that? Is it a threat?” Flying high cover during the encounter, Dietrich found herself fascinated and unnerved. The aircrew were unarmed, the object could not be identified and no one knew what it was capable of doing. Years later, after questioning whether they might have been unknowingly sent into a secret American test, she says she was repeatedly reassured that the object was not a U.S. system, that no submarine was operating in the area and that there was no evidence of American or allied activity responsible for what they witnessed. Dietrich also discusses the troubling absence of an immediate formal investigation. No specialized reporting system, debriefing procedure or UAP investigative infrastructure existed for the aircrews at the time. When she was eventually questioned at the Pentagon years later, details had already begun to fade. The conversation goes far beyond the mechanics of the encounter. Dietrich explains why she does not consider herself a whistleblower, how her identity became public after information from the case appeared online, why she resisted media attention and what finally persuaded her to appear on 60 Minutes. She speaks about the ridicule experienced by military witnesses, the need to examine extraordinary reports without automatically embracing or dismissing them and the importance of treating experiencers with dignity. Her position remains neutral: she does not claim to know what the Tic Tac was, but she believes unexplained objects in controlled military and civilian airspace deserve serious, scientifically responsible investigation. BIO: Alex Dietrich is a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander who served for 20 years as a naval officer and F/A-18F Super Hornet strike fighter pilot. She completed two combat deployments supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and later served on the ground in Afghanistan as an infrastructure reconstruction engineer. Her military honors include the Bronze Star and Air Medal.

Dietrich is best known publicly as one of the four naval aviators who witnessed the now-famous Tic Tac UFO during a training mission with the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group on November 14, 2004. Flying as Commander David Fravor’s wingwoman, Dietrich maintained high cover while observing the smooth, white, wingless object maneuver above a disturbance in the Pacific Ocean before rapidly departing. She has since briefed officials at the Pentagon and Congress and appeared on 60 Minutes and other major news programs to discuss the encounter.

Following her operational career, Dietrich taught Naval Science at a consortium of Washington, D.C., universities and served as a military professor in Leadership, Ethics and Law at the U.S. Naval Academy. Her academic work has included critical thinking, leadership, ethics, resilience and change management. In 2017, he helped establish the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU), where he currently serves as an Executive Board Officer. SCU brings together more than 400 scientists, engineers, former military personnel, academics and business professionals to study UAP using scientific methods and advanced technologies. Rich also serves as a Board Advisor to the Society for UAP Studies (SUAPS), represented the United States at a NATO Space Domain conference in Bologna, Italy, in 2022, and has appeared on numerous television, radio and podcast programs, including as a regular contributor to History Channel’s The Proof Is Out There. What did retired U.S. Air Force Pararescueman Scott Gearen photograph in the sky over Florida, and could something extraordinary be hiding in plain sight?

Scott joins Martin Willis to discuss his books, *Hiding in Plain Sight* and *Hiding in Plain Sight Volume II*, which document a mysterious aerial phenomenon he witnessed and photographed during a 2019 speaking engagement in Panama City Beach, Florida. Scott believes his series of photographs captures something genuinely unidentified. We’ll examine what he saw, how the images were taken, what they reveal and whether more conventional explanations can be ruled out.

Scott brings an unusually grounded perspective to the subject. He served for more than 22 years in elite U.S. Air Force special operations as a Pararescueman and Special Tactics pioneer. His career included service with JSOC, training in Rendlesham Forest, leading the first MH-53 penetration into Iraq at the beginning of Desert Storm and helping rescue two downed pilots from enemy territory in the Balkans.

We will also discuss the catastrophic 1984 parachuting accident in which Scott fell more than 3,000 feet beneath a destroyed canopy and struck the ground at approximately 100 miles per hour. During the ordeal, he experienced a profound near-death experience that transformed his understanding of consciousness, energy, human connection and what may happen at death.

BIO: Matthew Bowman is Associate Professor of Religion and History at Claremont Graduate University, and was appointed the Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon Studies, with a joint appointment in history and religion, in 2019. He is a specialist in American religious history, with particular interests in Mormonism, new religious movements, and the development of the concept of “religion” in the United States. He teaches courses on North American religions and Mormonism in the department of religion, and on the history of the United States in the department of history.

Prior to his arrival at CGU, Bowman held positions at Hampden-Sydney College and Henderson State University. He received his PhD from Georgetown University in 2011, and has regularly appeared in the national media to comment on Mormonism and American religion. BIO: Michael Gold, President, Redwire Space: As President of Redwire’s space business segment, Michael Gold is responsible for the company’s activities across eight facilities in the United States and Europe, including the production of solar arrays; microgravity research, development and manufacturing; docking and berthing systems; onboard computers and avionics; Very Low Earth Orbit and Low Earth Orbit spacecraft; digital engineering; and structures, mechanisms and robotics. Prior to joining Redwire, Mr. Gold served as NASA’s Associate Administrator for Space Policy and Partnerships, Acting Associate Administrator for the Office of International and Interagency Relations, and Senior Advisor to the Administrator for International and Legal Affairs. At NASA, he led the development and implementation of the Artemis Accords, negotiated binding agreements supporting NASA’s first lunar resource purchase, and helped reform planetary protection regulations. His work earned him NASA’s Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2021, the International Astronautical Federation’s Excellence in International Cooperation Award in 2024 and an Aviation Week Laureate Award in 2025. Before NASA, Mr. Gold was Vice President of Civil Space at Maxar Technologies and General Counsel for the company’s legacy Radiant Solutions business unit. He also spent thirteen years at Bigelow Aerospace, where he established the company’s Washington office, oversaw the launches of the Genesis 1 and 2 spacecraft, and received a NASA Group Achievement Award for the development and deployment of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module aboard the International Space Station. Mr. Gold currently serves on the Executive Board of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, having previously served as its Vice Chair and Treasurer. In 2022, he was appointed to NASA’s Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Independent Study Team, which subsequently received NASA’s Silver Group Achievement Award. He also chaired the Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee from 2012 to 2019 and served on the NASA Advisory Council, chairing its Regulatory and Policy Committee. Mr. Gold has authored numerous law review articles and editorials concerning commercial space and has testified before both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate as an expert in commercial space, space law and policy, and UAP. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he founded and led the Journal of Constitutional Law.
